Turning the tide: ‘Reboarding and employee experiences make the difference now more than ever’

Chief Enthusiasm Officer Johan Driessens explains how companies can keep their employees happy and motivated, now and later when life returns to normal. As the Global Emerging Employer Brand Leader of the Year 2018, Johan regularly gives talks on how to attract and retain talent. ‘We offer these talks as webinars now, and we have extended our webinar programme, says Johan Driessens. ‘This way, we can continue to share our know-how, because building your employer brand is more important now than ever before.’

The crisis has raised key questions. How do you keep your team motivated remotely? How do you maintain the connection with your employees? Johan stresses the importance of reboarding. ‘We will all be going back to work soon. But the world has changed. People have been forced to step out of their normal routine for a while. Some have been asking themselves existential questions. It’s important that you are aware of this as an employer and deal with it appropriately.’

Reboarding

According to Johan, you can do this by communicating clearly and meeting expectations. ‘People miss their colleagues. They look forward to returning to the office. So, make sure to turn this into a real experience. We are helping quite a lot of customers at the moment with this reboarding, both in terms of strategy and developing the experience around this.’

E-peritif

This period of homeworking is the perfect opportunity to make a difference as an employer. Johan refers to the ‘e-peritif’ initiative of test specialist Brightest. They had an aperitif package delivered to every employee so they could raise a ‘virtual’ glass together. ‘It’s no coincidence that Brightest took our Thribebuilders course,’ Johan laughs. ‘This e-peritif is a fantastic initiative to boost morale. Let’s not forget that this crisis is having a huge impact on people’s wellbeing. A good employer takes this into account.’

Top-class videos

Part of the video crew of Branded Careers are also still working. ‘We can no longer go on site. But people can easily record their own videos with a smartphone. Interviews are done via video conferencing. These rough clips are then turned into top-class videos in the editing process. Crisis breeds creativity, and creativity just so happens to be our strength.’
