Gumption commits to young people in vulnerable neighbourhoods: new sponsorship with City Pirates
Gumption proudly announces its new social partnership with City Pirates, an Antwerp football club active in the city’s vulnerable neighbourhoods.
City Pirates is much more than a sports club: it is a social platform that guides young people in their personal development and social inclusion. In many ways, the project closely aligns with Gumption’s values and convictions.
City Pirates sees sport as a catalyst for inclusion, civic engagement, and talent development. Equality, respect, and commitment are central to the organisation’s vision. Through football, the club builds trust. That trust forms the basis for all kinds of community initiatives, from home and school visits to homework support, skills workshops, job search assistance, music and dance workshops, and a giveaway and second-hand shop. In this way, young people develop both socially and athletically, increasing their chances of a stable and balanced future.

“This strong social project closely matches the values and convictions of our group,” says Liene De Bie, People Partner at Gumption and responsible, among other things, for HR and organisational culture. “Like City Pirates, at Gumption we believe in entrepreneurship, in the power of people, in talent development, and in the added value of diversity.”
“The partnership with City Pirates is a deliberate choice for structural social impact. This project helps young people move forward, not only on the pitch but, above all, in life. The sponsorship helps the club expand its mission and provide young people with the opportunities they deserve. We want to inspire our employees to get behind this.”

Michiel De Visschere, General Coordinator at City Pirates. “Without our private and public partners, it would be impossible for City Pirates to empower so many young people. We are sailing together on a course towards greater impact.”
The collaboration with City Pirates is a group initiative by Gumption. Group companies Brightest and Rank 1 are making an extra effort.
With more than 1,600 members, a waiting list of 4,000 young people, and activities in six districts of Antwerp, City Pirates is one of the largest and most diverse clubs in the country.
