Data News awarded the BakeryBattle app as Digital Project of the Year 2017. Together with organic bakery De Trog, valueXstream and Liftov co-created an innovative digital solution that allows employees and temporary staff to stay tuned with the company’s quality standards. BakeryBattle uses social dynamics, game mechanics and scientific methods to make it easier and more fun for employees to adopt better professional habits. Congrats to the whole team!
The idea of a battle quiz emerged during a brainstorm, says Marc Van Hoeck, COO at Bio Bakkerij De Trog and partner at supply chain architect valueXstream. “Hygiene and food safety are crucial for a bakery. Our temporary staff, some of whom are foreign speakers, also need to be part of the action in no time.” valueXstream partnered with innovation agency Liftov using its social learning platform BattleQuiz, allowing to meet De Trog’s ambitions. Both valueXstream and Liftov are part of the Gumption Group.

With BakeryBattle, new employees are deployable within the hour. Employees challenge each other to play knowledge battles, from beginner to advanced. The competitive element stimulates people to play more often, and take pleasure in it. Each battle consists of seven questions. The app can be played on smartphone, tablet or pc and is developed by Liftov.
New employees play the game during their training period. More experienced employees participate in the Grand BakeryBattle, which is played three times a year and takes up to four weeks. In this way, the knowledge of all 100 employees remains up-to-date. The game results can be monitored. They show the evolution of the people’s knowledge.
“BakeryBattle is built on the foundation of our BattleQuiz platform and adjusted to the clients’ needs”, says Derk De Kimpe, managing partner of Liftov. “BattleQuiz can easily be modified for different purposes and learning goals. The client provides the content, Liftov takes care of the rest.”
